So I was asked by a friend to join her family to tour Corregidor. Corregidor is an island at the entrance of Manila Bay. Due to it's position in the bay, it served as the focal point for naval defenses of Manila. During WWII Corregidor was the site of several battles between the US and Japanese. You take a large ferry to get to the island. Once we boarded and got in our seats we were ready to go. Then on the screens and on the overhead system they started praying for our safety in the crossing. I wasn't sure if I should feel relieved or freaked out of my mind!
After the ferry ride you get on an open bus to tour the island. It was fascinating to learn the history of the island. There were so many buildings and they have left everything untouched - nothing has been restored. They expect the buildings will only last another 10-20 years before they completely collapse.
We stopped for lunch at the only hotel on the island and had wonderful Filipino food. After lunch we finished the tour by walking through Malinta Tunnel. It was a wonderful day trip!
